“Angel in White” is a laudatory title for medical and nursing workers who bring health and happiness to the world through their love, care, and kindness. They should be respected by society for their selfless dedication. However, on July 21, 2001, an “Angel in White” named Yan Shu’an was mercilessly killed by the Falun Gong evil cult.
Yan Shu’an, a former head nurse of Mojiang Coal Mine Hospital in Shawan District, Leshan City, Sichuan Province, died of cancer for believing blindly in Li Hongzhi's "theory of karma elimination" after straying into the Falun Gong evil cult. Recalling Yan’s experience of being deceived by Li Hongzhi’s heretical fallacies, her husband Yang Guorong said, "It was Falun Gong that had killed my wife and harmed my family."
Yan Shu’an and Yang Guorong were both admitted to the Third Military Medical University in 1961. Yan Shu’an studied nursing while Yang Guorong studied medicine. Being both from Sichuan province, they fell in love with each other when they graduated from university. After graduation, Yang Guorong was assigned to work in a field hospital, while YanShu’an was arranged to work in the surgery department of the affiliated hospital of the military medical university. In 1968, they tied the knot. Yan Shu’an gave birth to a daughter a year later and a son in 1972. The couple lived in separate places, but they were full of happiness.
In 1981, Yan Shu’an and Yang Guorong were both released from military service and transferred to Mojiang Coal Mine Hospital, Shawan District, Leshan City. Due to their outstanding performance, Yang Guorong was soon appointed as the vice president in charge of operations while Yan Shu’an was promoted as a head nurse.
In 1992, Yan Shu’an retired from the hospital. At that time, Qigong practice rose to extraordinary popularity throughout China. Different Qigong forms such as Taijiquan, Baduanjin, Taijijian were quite popular in the local area. In 1997, Falun Gong was introduced to Mojiang Coal Mine as a Qigong practice. As it was claimed to be able to improve people’s health, Yan Shu’an, who suffered from liver disease, chronic gastrointestinal disease, and rheumatoid disease, started to practice it. From then on, Yan Shu’an fell into the trap of the Falun Gong cult and couldn’t extricate her from it.
Yan Shu’an bought many Falun Gong books and tapes, focusing on "studying the Fa" and "ascending to high levels". She also bought a portrait of "Master" Li Hongzhi sitting on a lotus flower and practicing meditation with a halo on his head. She hung the portrait on the wall of her house, wishing that "Master" would bless her so that she could "gain Gong” as soon as possible. While at home, she spent almost all her time practicing medication in front of the portrait, day or night. She no longer cared about her household chores and had even stopped taking care of her children.
After Yan Shu’an became a Falun Gong practitioner, the high education and professional honor she had once received turned out to be a booster for her to slide into the abyss of the evil cult, facilitating her to make “further advancement” in studying the “Fa” and practicing Gong. Soon after, she was appointed by the Falun Gong organization as the head of the Falun Gong assistance center in Hedong area.
As Yan Shu’an made “further advancement” in her practice, she was gradually brainwashed by Falun Gong's absurd "theory of karma elimination". She not only refused to go to the hospital, but she also refused to meet people there, completely forgetting that she was an “Angel in White” who had been doing nursing work for dozens of years. As her obsession with Falun Gong deepened, the illnesses she suffered from kept getting worse. However, she insisted that the only way to eliminate her disease was to "eliminate her karma".
On July 22, 1999, Falun Gong was banned by the government according to the law. Many facts were disclosed by the media about the Falun Gong cult organization cheating people, harming people, and getting money by fraud. However, instead of realizing that she had gone astray, Yan Shu’an thought that the government had blamed Falun Gong unjustly. Under the influence of Li Hongzhi's heretical ideas, she secretly conspired with her fellow practitioners to "spread the Fa” in Beijing.
According to Yang Guorong’s recollection, Yan Shu’an told him on July 25 that she was going to Leshan to deliver some clothes to her son. Because Yan Shu’an didn’t come back on the same day, Yang Guorong thought she might have stayed at her son's home. A few days later, Yan Shu’an still didn't come back, so Yang Guorong called his daughter-in-law to inquire about Yan Shu’an. However, his daughter-in-law told him that Yan Shu’an left her son’s home less than an hour after she put down her son’s clothes there.
Eight days later, Yan Shu’an was sent home by the police. It turned out that on July 25, she had been to Beijing to "spread the Fa" without her telling her family about it after leaving her son's home. Later, she was detained for seven days by the police in Beijing for disturbing public order.
Yan Shu’an lied to her husband about her trip, so did her fellow practitioners to their family members about theirs. It is an irony that the Falun Gong cult should have taught its disciples to tell lies while preaching the so-called "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance".
Although Falun Gong had been banned by law, the harm it did to Yan Shu'an and her family remained. Its heretical fallacies, including the "theory of karma elimination", still imprisoned Yann Shu'an's mind. Out of love for his wife Yan Shu'an, Yang Guorong took up all the household chores, and he often advised Yan Shu’an to take good care of her health instead of getting obsessed with Falun Gong. Sometimes, Yan Shu'an promised not to practice Falun Gong any more, but she still practiced meditation in front of the portrait of "Master" when Yang Guorong went out to work. Her health deteriorated due to her long-term suffering of illnesses and refusal of medical treatment. However, she didn't want to go to the hospital for a check-up or meet people there. Initially, Yang Gurong brought home the medicine for her, and she agreed to take it under his persuasion. However, Yang Guorong found the medicine was left untouched three days later.
After more than a year, Yan’s illness became more and more serious, and her body got thinner and thinner. On one occasion, she fainted at home, but as usual, she flatly refused her husband Yang Guorong to send her to the hospital.
A few days later, Yan Shu’an went into shock and was sent by her family to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with advanced intestinal cancer. Although she received emergency rescue, no miracles happened to save her. In the end, this "true disciple" obsessed with Falun Gong passed away miserably.
It was a pity that a kind-hearted woman who once acted as an Angel in White to save lives and help the injured was killed due to Falun Gong's heretical fallacies. Speaking of his wife’s death, Yang Guorong said with great regret, "If it were not for Falun Gong, my wife, the mother of my children, wouldn’t have lost her life. On the contrary, my wife and I would be living a happy life with our children and grandchildren. If her intestinal cancer had been found earlier, it could have been cured."
